Unkymood today: FABULOUS!
My scrap of weirdness today: I typed a report on a patient with the same name as a well-known, historical American figure. Later in the afternoon, while listening to the radio, I learn today was that famous person’s birthday. Strangeness.
Thanksgiving went well. I went to Jay’s grandmothers house for dinner. Good food and seemingly nice people. He’d told me many stories about his family and I was a bit nervous about meeting them. They made me feel welcome and comfortable though and I had the BEST gravy I’ve ever had. (shhh…don’t tell my mom!) I only felt a bit uncomfortable when his uncle started talking about tattoos and pondering on why people get them. None of mine were visible. He said something about how’s it gonna look when they get old, when the skin starts sagging, blah, blah and I just said “I’ll let you know.” That pretty much changed the subject. Heh. His grandma also said that I should come out some time and visit when Jay wasn’t around. Hmmm…I’m guessing grandma has some stories she’d like to tell. Just what I need. Ugh.
It was a good time though. Everyone was very nice to Nic and me. Nic formed a strangely immediate bond with Jay’s 13-year-old cousin. He’s a good kid and made sure that Nic, being the youngest of the five kids there, wasn’t left out. After dinner was over and everything put away and washed we all went to see “Haunted Mansion” which, as an adult, I thought sucked ass. That was one of my favorite rides at Disneyland. I can usually enjoy kids movies but it was just boring. I would have rather seen “Gothika” but we had all the kids with us.
Wow, a holiday without some sort of fight, crankiness, yelling, drunkenness or dirty looks, barely constitutes a holiday but, I managed to survive.
