I took Nick down to the river today. I promised him I would do something with him today since Ian wasn’t able to take him like he’d promised. We had fun and it was FREE. Free fun!! Luckily I have a son who thinks walking around a half dry riverbed, picking up rocks, listening to birds and chasing frogs is fun. Now that the weather is nicer I plan on more outings like that. Unfortunately I’m broke so I’m going to miss the Testicle Festival again this year. Yes, I said...Testicle Festival. A festival with a testicle theme. I’m not a testicle expert or anything but I believe another term is mountain oyster. I’m not sure if that’s a blanket term or just cow balls or sheep balls or what. I just want a shirt that says “Testicle Festival” on it. Heh. Some year Sybil and I will make it there together. Upon returning home from our creekin’ I found our across the street neighbors out from trying to burn a pile of branches that my sister had no success burning yesterday. This wasn’t THE neighbor but the ones next to him. Yeah, this is how we help each other out around here. We burn shit. It was still pretty wet yesterday when my sister tried to burn it but this guy used gas on it and got the job done. We all stood out there and talked for awhile. THE neighbor came out for a little while, messing around in his garage, sitting on the front step, lighting something in his burn barrel. Usually he stays in the house. I’ve stayed away from there since the night he went above and beyond flirting. I’ve talked to his wife a few times. She told me about an air show at Whiteman Air Force Base that is coming up and we made plans to take the kids. I just hope the husband doesn’t go with us. I may have to feign other plans or a highly communicable illness or something. After the other neighbors went inside I had a seat at the base of one of the trees out front so I could watch my three-year-old niece ride her bike. I was sitting there vacillating between watching her and spacing out when a red truck drove by. I nodded at the driver (cause that’s what you do out here) and he gave a little wave and half way between a cringe and a smile...a crile. I looked at him when he waved as he passed by and.....DUDE!!!!... it ... was ... Scott!! Yeah, the bony, drumming Beautiful Baby from back in March!! I didn’t really even register until he was down the street! Heh! I’m treating it just as I did our one night together. With a smile on my face, I dropped my head down, shook it a couple of times and out loud, to myself, I laughed and said, “dude!” |
